  1. Can't for the life of me find how to convert a m2a to anything else so I can edit it.....

Have tried FFMpegX and QT, but have got nowhere.

Sure it's simple, but have mental blockage.....

  2. do you mean mpeg1 layer 2 file?
    like svcd ans vcd?

    i have a pc
and i just rename the file to "example.mp3"
and convert it with musicmatch to whatever i want.

you have a mac, so just find a program that converts mp3 to wav
    and use the same method.

    it might work.

its easy... You can rename .mpa to .mp2 [if it really is MPEG1 layer 2 audio] and use iTunes to convert it to a .wav file or whatever.

If your file was ripped from MPEG2 it might already be in PCM format, in which case you would just rename the file .wav

If the file is an AC-3 file, i recommend using AC3DECX for OS X to convert it to .wav

    I hope this helps.

  4. OK - being stupider than usual today.......

Pretty sure it is a mpeg1 layer 2 file - was ripped from a DVD that my AV amp at home wouldn't decode the audio bitstream of, and the only thing it can't do is MPEG audio...

Dragged into the iTunes source window and looked for a way to export/convert.

The only thing it'll allow is to burn it to CD - the "convert selection to AIFF" under "advanced" is greyed out.....

    Bah.... [/img]

Ok... When you drag the file into iTunes, is it playable? How does it sound?

If you are confident that it is a .mp2 audio file did you rename the file with a .mp2 extension?

I think that you have to create a new playlist in iTunes and convert from there... I dont think that you can convert it if it is just in your library. So try creating a new playlist, and dragging the file into it.

You are better off converting the audio to WAVE format instead of .AIF
If your goal is to convert this to another format in the end [DVD, Divx, VCD] most of the tools are much faster at converting .wav files. AIF and .WAV are essentially the exact same thing, but .wav has better compatibility with command line tools.

To change it, go to your iTunes prefs, select import and change to a custom .wav [44.1kHz, 16 BIT stereo]

Then select your .MP2 file in your new playlist, click on ADVANCED and tell it to convert selection to WAVE.

    hope this helps.

  6. Cheers ZeroSix, got it...

It is an mpeg1 layer 2, re-named it and found if you just drag it into the library and highlight it in the main window as well as in the source view, it converted without any probs.....
