  1. I have a video in 640x320, used virtuadub to crop it some arbitrary size that I thought was fit (sumthin like 607x289) and Divx 5.05 said it could not save it... divx 3.11alpha saved it, but it was slanted video (eg. on a 45 degree angle) and in black and white with lines thru it... can I assume that divx compression needs to be in a 4:3 resolution?

eg. below is a fence with boards that should be vertical... instead they are slanted and a blank line cuts across at a 45 degree angle

it can be any resolution you want but the dimentions must be a multiple of 8 ( I think....)...i.e. you can have 640 or 648 but not 645.

The ratio can be whatever.....16:9, 4:3, 47:2 (although the last one might look weird, it is perfectally legal)

  3. uh, you're confusing me... is the last one the only exception to the rule of 8?

er...there are two things to consider...the ratio and the resolution....the ratio can be whatever you want...

take a divx at 640x480. This is a 4:3 ratio which means that the width is 4 units and the height is 3 units. In this case the width is 640 (4*160) and the height is 480 (3*160). Our 'unit' in this case is 160 pixels.

47:2 is an extreme example but if we use the same unit as above (160) then we get a width:height ratio of (47*160) : (2*160) which translates as a resolution of 7520x320.

Ratio and Resolution.......when I asked hawker in Thailand "Is this a real Stussy shirt" he said to me "Same same...but different"
