Hey all,
Just wondering what codec people are using when they just intend to watch a show then delete it (ie: no later conversion to DivX, MPEG1/2, etc...).
I use DivX at 2000kbps but have to lower my resolution to 384x576 otherwise I drop quite a few frames (I'm running a PIII celeron 1.3Ghz).
When I capture with the intention of post-processing I use either Huffy or MJPEG but find they aren't the best to watch a recording in.
cheers,
cliffo

I just make 320x240 900k MPEG1 files. Small, easy to view, maybe even burn to CD-RW for the DVD player. Play just fine in my Apex.
Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

If you just want to watch something then delete mpeg1 to me seems fine and wont eat a ton of disk space like huffy and mjpeg.

I think you are on the right lines anyway in capturing in Divx (I prefer Xvid but that's just a matter of choice). The quality will be much better at the same resolution than mpeg1 and with similar file sizes.
It really depends on what you can get away with in terms of capturing and not dropping frames.
If this doesn't work for you then maybe capturing in MJPEG at a quality of 19 will be ok. This certainly plays back in Dvx player smoothly on my PC (whereas huffy won't), although there will be a file size overhead.
