I use DVDMaestro for Authoring and when you right click on the Project Title and go to Properties it has an option for NTSC or Pal TV System.
Is this going to do the job when I try to author a Pal mpeg and play it back on a standalone that doesn't play Pal????
Thanks,
GTZ

Nevermind, no it doesn't. However, I am rendering Pal to NTSC with Sonic Foundry Vegas 4.0, I'll let u know how it goes.

Please do.

On Pal SVCD's I run the mpeg file through MainConcept MPEG Encoder to convert to NTSC prior to using (S)VCD2DVDMPG+. I've had 100% success so far.
-
MainConcept takes roughly and hour/mpg file. I've only notice a loss in quality with one movie. I've never used Tmpgenc to convert from PAL to NTSC, but what the hay, I'll give it a try to see which is better.

I'm just looking for something FASTER.
It's sad, really.
A P3-450 can decode DVD-quality MPG-2 in realtime with DTS:ES sound and 16x9 video. Decoding an SVCD on my machine is 5% of the cpu, maximum.
Encoding to MPG2 seems to be a real bottleneck for TMPGEnc, I think their algorithms are just hideously inefficient.

Hard to tell if it was 100% successfull as I've been quite time restricted in what I do here, convert, svcd2mpeg, menu, author, burn, take to work and have a pal (pun definitely intended
check the DVD on his standalone, as my Apex seems to play whatever I give it.
It would appear that the video after converting with Vegas 4.0, has a bit of a stutter every so often, perhaps trying to stay in sync with the audio, I have no idea at this point and will attempt to investigate further. I've yet to try TMPEGEnc for this purpose. On a side note, Vegas 4.0 does use MainConcept MPEG Plugin, I've no idea if the standalone encoder would work better.
Honestsoul, have you encountered any stuttering video while using MainConcept Encoder??

Hello
Take a look at THIS website:

Now most of this information covers DVD resolutions (720x480 NTSC and 720x576 PAL) but once you understand the process it shouldn't be so hard to "adapt" it to SVCD resolution (which is 480x480 NTSC and 480x576 PAL).
Good Luck!

I've had no problems with stuttering or out of sync video/audio.
I've shared my DVD's with several of my workgroup(10) and all but one had a problem. An Apex 1010 was the culprit unit that wouldn't recognize the DVD.[/b] -
Ok, did a pal to ntsc convert with MainConcept Encoder, same file as the one I converted with Vegas 4.0. I'll burn it and let you know how it goes.

Success!!!
No stuttering video after doing the Pal to NTSC conversion with MainConceptMPEG Encoder, which I might add is super easy to use.
Plays fine on my Apex 1100W, I'll have a friend test it out on his Toshiba that doesn't play anything but NTSC DVD's and will report back tomorrow night.

P.S. Many thanks to Honestsoul for sharing what works for him
P.P.S Here's a screen of MainConceptMPEG Encoder.....simple.

You are quite welcome -
wow.. this main concept mpeg encoder seems pretty cool from what i've done with it so far.. sharing pal svcd's with friends used to be such a pain in the ass.. maybe this program will be the answer..
currently i'm encoding a 2 disc pal svcd (pixar movie) to an ntsc dvd (lpcm audio).. then i'm going to author the finished mpegs through tmpgenc dvd author..
the resulting files should be totally within dvd spec right? -

MainConcept MPEG Encoder is faster than TMPGEnc Plus, in my book. Converting AVI to MPEG1 and AVI to MPEG2 use to take hours like from 4 to 8max depending on the size, filters (video + audio) under TMPGEnc and TMPGEnc Plus, but now with MainConcept MPEG Encoder it's now to less that 1 to 2 hrs
Currently testing the program as we speak, will let you know how good my SVCD film as turned out as MPEG2?
TMPGEnc Plus is very slow overnight convertion proccess where MainConcept MPEG Encoder is just an hour or two. -
Yeah. I have a fast machine, but doing PAL->NTSC conversion (which is DOWNsampling, you throw away pixels, it ought to be FAST) takes ... roughly the length of the movie, maybe only 80% but still.
UPSAMPLING (going from PAL SVCD 480x540 to NTSC DVD 720x480) takes DOUBLE the length of the movie.
And I have an Athlon XP1800+ with a gig of RAM.

Quick comment about MainConcept MPEG Encoder. First thank Honestsoul for the great information about MainConcept MPEG app it really save alots of complex works.
Now I was wondering why is my avi file that was originally 197mb turn into a 1.3gb? But when I use TMPGEnc-2.513.53.162 with the same avi file it under around 800mb but the conversion thangy from Pal to Ntsc is really screwup when using TmpgEnc app.
So I'd... rather use MainConcept MPEG Encoder instead but the compression is lousy, so is there anyway to change the compression setting?
