  1. K, info first. (ck my rig out, is up to-date).

    DV capture (home movie) , using Pinnacle and my firewire. Convert using TMPGenc Plus, burn with Nero (yes, I will try VCDEasy, though, it is no longer freeware).

    I have tried numberous resolutions. Yes, read a lot of tutorials here. Both 352x240 and 720x480 came out well.

    So, what's the problem right?

    On my PC, the films look great. Aspect is correctly displayed, and quality is crisp.

    On my TV though, well, that is another story.

    TV= Hitachi 53FDX01B (4x3)
    DVD= Panasonic XV-S500BK

    Yup, the sides are chopped. If I set the standalone and the tv both to 16x9, then, the sides are ok, but the top and bottom are chopped.

    Is there any resolution (no pun intended) to this very annoying problem. I burned 6 discs before I thought to check it out on my PC first.

    Thanks

  2. You could resize and put borders around the frame. I'm thinkin this would mess up the video because the DV is probably interlaced. You'd have to deinterlace first, and that's not going to be good. I'd say leave some space in the frame when you shoot.

    Another option would be to adjust your TV. The following urls might help you find out how to enter the service menu for your tv. You could then make it clip less.

  3. Thanks for the links. Very informative.

    I have since learned of "overscan", and feel that this is the cause of my "problem".

    As this is the newbie section, and, very few of us would in fact know what an overscan is, and, wouldn't know to search for it, since, if we new about it, we wouldn't post now would we?

    I think, that this should be a sticky.

    Course, what do I know?

  4. I feel your pain.

    I thought that was a curt answer by the mod. I couldn't remember the term myself. And I've been doing this for quite some time. Don't be put off. Most of the time everyone is very friendly here.
