  1. I have a Dell Dimension 700mHz computer with a DVD-ROM, CD-R, and two hard drives. Now, I want to purchase a DVD+R (only, no CD-R added to this drive). Is it possible to replace my DVD-ROM with a DVD+R and have my CD-R drive installed at the same time?

Or ... should I buy a DVD+R/CD-R drive and just replace my CD-R drive? Is it possible to have one DVD+R drive and a CD-R drive installed at the same time?

    Thanks,

I believe any combination you stated should be able to exist. If you do have problems it probably won't be because you have a dvd burner and a cd burner separate.

    scottrwn98,
As long as all IDE or whatever interface is use on drives are set, installed and operated properly you can have any combination you desire of hardware you wish. If there were any problems it would more than likely revolve around the software not being compatible so choose only what you need as far as software goes. A lot of burning applications can not co-exist well on the same machine unless installed exactly in a specific order so choose well.
As an example I have a full tower with a DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW 2 CD-R/RW and 2 DVD Roms. The computer is just that, a machine and it can not care what hardware is installed in the box as long as it is done correctly, within limits of course.

  4. Are you sure you drive is really DVD+R only with no CDR support? I'm sure that such a drive exists but I haven't seen one. What I did was replace my old CDRW drive with my DVDR drive, as it burns DVDR or CDR.

  5. Yep, I think all the DVD burners I been looking at also burn cds, though only about 16x... yuk!

I have a lite-on 52x cd burner and a toshiba 2x dvd burner, no problems and nero will use either.

I did have a 16x dvd player installed also without problems untill I needed the port for another hard drive. 5 devices 4 connections

Just have to make sure the software has the corect device selected. My dvd player program would not play disks till I found the drive setting and changed it. Was trying to read the dvd burner and of course I was using the 16x drive

And as mentioned previously some programs conflict with others. But you have the same problem if you only had one drive and all the programs anyway, so just pick the ones you need or want.
