A friend and I shot the same disc, mine is a better quality I think , and he somehow got the 5.1 sound ...all i want to do is replace his video with my source...is that possible?
side questions... If I wanted to convert froms/vcd to dvd is there a reason i wouldnt want to encode the video?
And if i do its as simple as extracting the mpg with vcdgear and encoding in tmpgenc? or do you suggest other programs?

Not quite familiar with "shooting" discs, but...
What you wanna do is Demux his, and your videos into separate video and audio files. Now just take your *.m2v (the video file) and his *.ac3 (that will be the 5.1 surround) and Mux.
Btw, mux & demux refer to TMPEG's Multiplex and Demultiplex functions under "Mpeg Tools"
And for the other question:
I think you have to as VCDs are MPEG1, while DVDs are MPEG2, but I may be wrong. And it is that simple.
