  1. I installed the ADVC-50 a few days ago along with Vegas Video 4.0b. I have my VCR hooked up to the ADVC-50, then it firewires to the firewire port on the back of my system so I can convert analog to digital. The first few days were great. Everything captured flawlessly and I even burned a DVD fine using DVD Architect.

However, this morning all of a sudden all the capturing just stopped. I captured one clip this morning fine. After that, the capture preview screen went black. I tried unplugging and re-plugging the VCR composite cords and firewire cord, but it didn't work. So I thought it might be something with Vegas Video, so I checked all the settings and uninstalled and reinstalled the program. Again, all I got was a black/blank preview screen (and when I tried capturing it captured nothing).

I opened up Windows Movie Maker to check out the record function in that program and it showed a black/blank preview screen, too. So from that I've ruled out the problem being with Vegas Video.

I switched VCRs and composite cords, but that didn't solve the problem, so you can rule that out.

When I unplug and plug back in the firewire cord connected to the ADVC-50, Windows does detect it. But it doesn't seem to be detecting the input anymore.

Anyone else have this problem and know what it might be? Should I RMA it back to Canopus?

  2. Nevermind...I just found the Canopus forum on their website and apparently several other people are having the problem, too. Ugh...frustrating!
