Program for MPG conversions? (Not TMPGEnc)

Ok, so I'm hunting for a program that does what TMPGEnc does but is FASTER. TMPGEnc is horribly slow for stuff that ought to be much faster. I know that CCE is faster, but it's also very limited and/or requires scripting and lots of outside programs to make it work. It's confusing, and complex, and generally horrid. I can't believe they charge for it.

What else is there that's FASTER than TMPGEnc? It can be freeware, payware, shareware, commercial, whatever.

I tried Canopus ProCoder, it's got a much nicer interface, and produces nicer output, but takes just as long.

Question is, are you willing to give up quality for speed. I have tried a couple of the others and keep coming back to TMPGEnc.

Fast mean a sacrific in quality.

CCE, Mainconcept, even VideoWave and VideoStudio, faster but not as good quality in my opinion.

I am at the point where even if I edit in Premiere, I will frame serve to TMPGEnc, just to keep the quality up.
