I've got a standalone Tivo, and a DirectTV Tivo. Often times, I'll record something, then want to transfer it to DVD. To this point, this is what I've done (after it's already recorded to Tivo).
Hook my Sony Camcorder to my Tivo via RCA's
Use my Sony Camcorder as a passthrough
Hook my Sony Camcorder to my laptop via Firewire
Hit play on the Tivo, and hit Record in Ulead Video Studio
Now, my laptop only has about 15G or so free of HD space, so that's a limiting factor. My questions are, what software would work best for this setup, and what format should I record it in to stay within my space limitations, yet yield as good quality as possible? If necessary, I can save to another machine on my network, but that's sometimes been hit and miss. I'll give it another go though if the drive space issue is really holding me back.
I'd rather not hack around adding a NIC to my Tivo if I can stay away from it. I just got it, and I'd like to have it around for a few months before voiding my warranty.
Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.
