I have done extensive research here and elsewhere but was not able to find the solution to the following.
A couple of times I came across movies that were incorrectly encoded to SVCD MPG without letterboxing. The image is 480x480 (as it's supposed to be) but instead of having the black bands, it fills 100% of the frame space. The result is horizontally stretched and I don't know what to use to resize it. TMPGEnc accepts any available format except MPEG-2.
Suggestions ? Thanks!
Simon

TMPGEnc does accept MPEG-2. That is what the "MPG" in TMPGEnc means. Did your trial period expire? If so, try to register it. If you are a little strapped for the moment, maybe you can load it into Virtaul Dub MPEG-2 mod and frameserve it to TMPGEnc.
Hello. -
You need the mpeg2 plug-in for TMPGEnc, it's in the Tools section!

Tommyknocker, the VDub method worked. Thanks.
ZippyP, I don't see anything in the Tools to resize, where exactly is that ? -
You might not have to re-encode at all...
Try opening the file up in DVDPatcher or ReStream. They both have functions that set the Display Aspect Ratio flag. This isn't what most people here use them for, but the feature is there nonetheless and you might as well try it if you need it.

For anyone having trouble importing mpeg2 files into TMPGEnc, here's the mpeg2 plug-in: https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=TMPGEnc%20MPEG2%20Plugin#comments

Yeah, I didn't notice the subsequent post.
Nonetheless, I know even if I successfully re-encoded and then later found that I didn't have to, I might want to start from scratch again so I could retain the highest quality.
That and it's useful information to know.
Or I'll just shut up.
