    Hi guys,

    Please can someone tell me how long it would take to burn a movie, say 1GB in size?

    Reason i'm asking is that i'm thinking of buying a 4x burner.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. Well..a 4.4 gig takes about 60 mins so i guess that at 1x 1 gig should take about 15-20 mins, 2x 8-10 mins n 4 x 4-5 mins although the lead in and out on DVDs does take quite a while so that could throw these figures out somewhat.

    Thanks for your reply mate.

    So i'm right in saying that a DVD burner burns more data per second than a standard cd writer. My liteon cd writer burns 800mb in about 4 mins at 52x. So 4.4 gig in about 60 mins at 4x is excellent.

    Could you recommend a good burner available in the uk?

  4. You can't apply the same criteria to DVD as CD burning, for a wide variety of reasons.

    That said, typically it takes about 15 minute to burn an entire DVD at 4x, 30 minutes at 2x and 60 minutes at 1x. That's for 4.4gigs of data, more or less.

    actually, burning at 2x, I burn a full dvd-r in about 30 minutes.

    I've never burned less than 2.5Gb, and that took about 20 minutes.

  6. On DVD burners

    1X = 1380 KB/s
    2X = 2760 KB/s
    3X = 4140 KB/s
    4X = 5520 KB/s

    1GB=1024MB=1048576 KB

    1048576/5520=190 second

    190/60 = around 3 mins
    Add leadin and leadout time

    1 GB data with 4X burning speed should finish with in 5 MINS

    So, basically, we are saying that a CD burner is about twice as fast as a DVD burner? Per mkelly, 60 minutes for 4.4 gigs at 1X divided by about 6 to get 700 meg per CD, equals 10 minutes per CD full, whereas a CD-R, at 48X will burn in about 3 1/2 minutes.
    I'd not like to swap disks that often, so will take the hit in time, as soon as I get one of the damn things.
    Why care how long it takes, anyhow? Remember how long it took at 1X-2X for CD-Rs? I do. 35 minutes plus, to even learn if you had a disk or a coaster.
    Where the hell do you think the term "coaster oven" came from? Not since "BurnProof".

  8. 1x DVD-ROM speed offers a transfer rate of 1.35 MB per second, compared to 1x CD-ROM speeds of 150 kB per second. Therefore, 1x DVD speed is about 9x CD-ROM speed.
