  1. I was reading the above topics on how the playstation1 can play vcds but the ps2 cannot. Is this true cos i have both playstations. I have a mod chip in the ps1 and need to know.
    Someone said earlier that ps1s have mpeg1 or something. Can someone calrify this for me please. Thanks

    The playstation does do vcd but with the addon movie player such as Gamars make, the new PSOne doesn't, I may be wrong and someone will correct me if I am, the PS2 does not do vcd . Well upto now it does'nt.

    Neither the ps1 or ps2 have mpeg1 decoding software, among other reasons this is why they cannot play vcds out of the box. There is a hardware adapter that plugs into the ps1 that adds the necessary mpeg1 decoder and vcd playing software, allowing you to play vcds. You can also watch vcds on the PSOne but you have to install an interal adapter since it doesnt have an i/o port. It is installed similarly to a mod chip. This internal adapter also works on the ps1.

    Currently there is no vcd adapter available for the ps2 and there is no other way to play vcds on it. In time there will surely be a hardware adapter or similar workaround.
