Phillips dvdr880 recorder help

I have just recently bought Phillips dvdr880 recorder, Pinnicle dc10 plus, windows xp pro with over 700mb of memory.

Can anyone help me figure out to copy a tv/dvd recording onto my pc, edit it and the be able to play it again in the Phillips DVD player after re burning it. When I make a new edited recording I can only play it back on the pc but not on the tv. Any help would be very much appreciated as I have read as much as I can on this site and I don’t seem to be able to find an answer.

What I have been doing is right clicking on the DVD in the D drive of my pc and then saving this to a folder and trying to edit and burn it in Easy Cd creator. I presume that this is where the problem lies.

Sorry for the poor description and my amateurish ability but hopefully somebody can help.
