Hi I just got a dazzle digital video creator 80 with the usb input now I have been reading the forums and I saw that this unit really sucks big time. Now I am not able to return it to the computer show it was purchased at, so my question is can i just use the capture device with other software to convert my laserdisc movies to dvds or video cds with decent quality. Also I have pinnacle studio 8 and the pinnacle instant copy as well the veritas software that came with my sony 500ax dvd burner, so is there any way that this can be done without throwing this thing in the trash??

Since you can't return it, and since it's an USB product, I'd install it and give it a try.

According to a post on the Dazzle forum, you can use Pinnacle Studio 8 to capture. http://dazzleforum.infopop.cc/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=392601346&f=3496010021&m=2176000132

  3. I have been going to computer trade shows for many years. If you have the receit, call the vendor and ask if they will give you credit for it if you buy something else, of equal or greater value, at their store. Most vendors will do this instead of loosing your business, especially if you are buying something that costs more than the capture device. Times are really tough now on private computer stores, many of which are folding, so they need all the customers they can get.

If you are going to use the capture device to create VCDs or SVCDs, it may give you good quality captures for these two formats. Keep in mind though, the video quality will not be anywhere near the quality of DVD burnables. If you plan to buy a DVD burner, the capture device may not give you high quality video captures.

  4. The Dazzle 80 was the first capture device that I got. Video and audio quality wise it did an adequate job, but I would often loose a/v sync. It took me forever to get the sync issue resolved.

It is a workable item, but if you ever intend to do more than VCD quality captures, then I suggest spending a little extra money and get something that will be able to do DVD quality captures.
