  1. Hi
I was wondering does anyone know if it is possible to make the mpeg-2 files smaller when using tmpeg? I am getting a rough file size of about 2.5gb per file after converting avi to mpeg-2 but i want to get the size down a little so i can fit more files onto the dvd, is it possible with tmpeg? changing the settings or anything?
    please help
    thanks.

  2. The isze of an mpeg file is dependant on 2 things. Bit rate and play length. There is not much you can do about the length of a movie (cut off opening and end credits perhaps). But you can change the bitrate and TmpGenc will let you choose almost any bitrate you want.

You can calculate file size for a movie using a bitrate calculator if using CBR or VBR encodes

However, if you are using TmpGenc's CQ mode, calculating filesize is more difficult, and changing filesize is done by changing the quality value, not the bitrate.

    Hope this helps.

check what kind of audio encoding is being done in TMPGenc - if you're using PCM audio instead of Mpeg layer II, you are adding a huge amount of data to your files.
