I recently bought a capture card and have been recording various old vhs tapes to mpeg1/2 video with the hope of converting them to divx or xvid. I seem to be having the same issues over and over... where either the audio seems to develop a slight echo at times during the video or I get frequent stutters where the audio seems to freeze for a fraction of a second and restart, I have no idea where I'm going wrong.

Software I have been using is either PowerVCR2 v3.0 or Winfast PVR (for PAL capture to 352x240 mpeg1 or mpeg2 at 25fps both set to 4500kbps both with mpeg layer 2 audio at 224kbps contained within the stream).

To encode I have been using Xmpeg 5.0rc2 for Xvid codec Feb 24/03 (Koepi's build) using Lame for processing the audio stream ussually to a 44100Hz CBR stream of 96, 112 or 128kbit... and Dr Divx for divx's via 5.05pro codec and whatever mp3 codec is used with Dr Divx (it doesn't say in the gui) using the same bitrates etc. as I have been for xvid.

Both ways I have been using 2 pass encoding and the visual results have been excellent, the audio seems to be holding sync for the duration of the movie and just producing strange anomalies...

The echo is more prevalent with encodes via Dr Divx and seems almost like the left and right audio channels lose a fractional amount of sync with each other for a short period of time (a minute or two).

Where as an Xvid's audio stream seems to just stutter frequently, giving a little click every few seconds and cutting like 1/10 of a second of audio and then resuming.

I'm using pretty standard settings, with no 3rd party filters and Playing with Core Media Player or BSPlayer via FFdshow.

Any idea's would be greatly appreciated.
Thankyou.
