I have found a few topics that almost answer my question, but put simply....
The ADVC-1394 is cheaper than the ADVC-100, AND I wont need to buy a separate firewire card with it - what's the catch?
I understand that the ADVC-1394 can't output an analog signal, but isn't the D/A video circuitry essentially the same?

There is a very good forum on the canopus website:
http://forum.canopus.com/
I would post the question there. I am sure they can offer the best advice.Just what is this reality thing anyway?
