  1. using virtualdub to add SSA subtitles to an AVI does not work the way I want it. my AVI (XVID) is widescreen, there is black space below the picture where I want the subtitles to go. tmpgenc shows the black part, media players show the black part, but virtualdub does not show the black part therefore it can only place the subs on the bottom of the actual picture. is there some program that will place the subs in this accursed black spot from hell, or a way to make vdub display it all? remember it is widescreen, not fullscreen, that blackness below the picture SHOULD be there. I have been at this one task for a week straight, no answers to be found anywhere. if no one replies again I'll have to admit defeat =( please help if you can..and thanks

If VDub only shows the picture area, no borders, then I'm pretty sure those borders aren't part of the AVI after all. You could of course add them yourself in VDub with the resize filter (and letter box) before frame serving and encoding (to mpeg?).

  3. thank you!!!!! it worked...(yes I'm encoding it to mpeg) and when I burned it before as a test the border appeared on the TV. all I had to do was look up was resolution it was, type that in there and made the height bigger to make the border in the resize filter...thanks a lot =)
