  1. Hi All,

Could you help me please to convert VOBs to raw AVI (for further processing)?

I decoded ( by DVDdecrypter - www.DVDdecrypter.com) all VOBs from DVD to hard disk, but what may be used for VOBs->raw AVI converting?

I can't setup DVDx for such conversion - only Cinepack, DIVX, etc (as output format) proposed...

    Thank you in advance!

    Best wishes,
    Sergey

Yuo don't need to convert to raw avi (and don't want to either, a full movie can easily take over 100 Gb as raw avi).

Just create a DVD2Avi project of your DVD and open it with VDubmod. Or create a pseudo-avi of your project with VFAPI. Or open your DVD2Avi project using avisynth.

Any of these methods provide you a way of prosessing your video and take only a few minutes + few megabytes max HD space. You wont gain anything converting to raw avi instead (but the converting task takes quite some time plus the huge amounts of HD space I already mentioned)

  3. Thank you very much for reply!
I tryed DVD2AVI and opened saved project with TMPGEn - I see video, but there are no audio....
I also created pseudo AVI by VFAPI, but it can't be opened by MainConcept Encoder....

Could you tell me please, what steps shall be perfomed for VOB encoding with SOUND into into MPEG2? Probably you may recommend some commercial product (all-in-one for VOB->MPEG2 coverting)?

    Thank you in advance,
    Best wishes,
    Sergeu

The audio part is not included in DVD2Avi pjoject. Instead, DVD2Avi demuxes or decodes audio tracks of your choise into separate files, that can be reencoded (if needed) with for example BeSweet. Look under the Audio menu in DVD2Avi.

I'm not aware of any commercial VOB->MPG2 tools, but I suggest you to try DVD2SVCD (its freeware and makes a lot things easier). Are you trying to do SVCD, DVD or what?

Well DVD2AVI will extract the original audio file(s) from a DVD which in most cases are AC-3 files. After you encode the VIDEO (by loading the D2V file into TMPGEnc) you will have a M2V file. You then use TMPGEnc to multiplex the M2V file and the original audio (AC-3 file) into a single MPEG file. You can then use just about any authoring program at this point to make your final DVD. In fact some authoring programs will accept your seperate M2V file (the video) and your audio file (AC-3) without having to first multiples them into a single MPEG file.

It's rather easy truth be told.

Just make sure you set TMPGEnc to output a M2V file instead of a MPEG file. If you did get an MPEG file with no sound then you can demultiplex it meaning it will split it into 2 files ... a M2V video file and a MP2 audio file. Then multiplex the M2V file with the original AC-3 audio file.

In fact some authoring programs don't accept ac3 audio at all, only wav. I know there are authoring programs that accept mpg, but I haven't used any of these. Usually you have to feed the authoring program separate video (.mpv, .m2v) and audio streams (ac3, mp2 ....).

If you plan to burn your videos on CD media and want to be able to play it on standaalone players, you have to resize to SVCD resolution (480x480/576) and reencode the audio to mp2 (ac3 audio is not a part of SVCD specs)
