  1. I cannot import my MPEG2 video into TMPGENC because it says that its unsupported and this is OBVIOUSLY because I do not have the MPEG2-PLUGin and this is why. Whenever I try to open the zip file it gives me some crap about not supporting long file names. What the heck is that?

This long file name thing is all that stands between me and DVD quality video on VHS...WOOHOO!!!

Please somebody help me resolve this problem.

Don't bother. Just install PowerDVD (trial version's fine!) and voila! TMPGEnc now can read MPEG2. You can even uninstall PowerDVD - the mpeg2 decoder will be left in your system.

  4. Well honestly, I already have powerDVD.

I tell ya what. The only reason that I even wanted to use TMPGENC is because I could trim the commercials off the stuff that I recorded on TV WITHOUT going through the hell of a 9 hour production time with premeier for only 20 mins of video. Also I would not lose any Video quality.

Im sure that TMPGENC is not the only program that can trim MPEG2 without taking 10 hours or without losing video quality.

So could anybody please recommend a program that would help me? Thanks.

    First hellfire104,

You need tmpg Plus for MPEG-2 (SVCD). The one you need to pay for, I don't know which you have. http://www.pegasys-inc.com/e_main.html The free TMPGenc will not do anything with MPEG-2.

I have that and I also have, and love Main Concept, great quality in an hour for a full movie and does every format.

I use TMPGenc Plus now mostly for the MPEG tools section and encode in MainConcept. http://www.mainconcept.com/index_flash.shtml
Also important is the Codec. You can use this codec and the demo for free, although you do get a watermark, but I have purchased Moonlight-Elecard MPEG2 Player v 2.1. It comes with an excellent codec for MPRG-1 and mpeg-2 and the player allows me to edit out clips. I also like that I RT click on the player and I get all of the charactoristics of the file.

This allows me to play SVCDs or MPEG-2 files on any type of player as well, like the free Zplayer.

  7. What I really need, is a program that can read these MPEG2 videos.
All I need to do is cut out the commercials, then im sending them right back to VHS. Which program is the best to cut the commercials from MPEG2's?

I can do it with Adobe Prem. however, AP wants to spare no quality what so ever, and it takes so long to process 1 episode. its like 9 hours per 20 minutes of MPEG2 Video. Sure, no quality is lost, but 9 hours? heh. After 9 hours, I usually get an error :]

Anyway, which is the best to cut commercials, maintain all quality, and not take 9 hours.

    Thanks.

  8. Jolo,

There seem to be a lot of products on Mainconcepts page. Which program are you using?
