Well to sum it all up, before I start burning Dvds, I'm tring to learn alot first before buying and atempting to burn some Dvds. So I have a list of questions that I have before doing so. And yes I have been using the search engine guys to get some advice, but I need this stuff in "Lame Duck" terms, hints "Extreme Newbie"...lol So if you guys could help me out I would appreciate it.
Here we go;
1)What are the best programs to use and how many do I need? I have DVD Decrypter, and Pinnacle Instant Copy already.
2)I have not bought a Dvd burner yet, what whould be the best ones that are having the least problems, and do I need one that does it all like the ones that are DVD-R/DVD+R, CD-R/CD+R, CD player, DVD player all in one?
3)What are the best to use DVD-R or DVD+R, and what brand is the best with the least problems burning?
Thank you again for any info and help with this. Eric

First, have a look at some/all of the guides on here, they will give you very good ideas and help on what software to use for what
Do you intend to just copy movies, create movies, edit movies, convert movies, etc, etc
A good start might be :
TMPGenc Plus
TMPGenc DVD Author
Nero
DVD2One/DVD Shrink
(Personal choice here, thats what I have found to work for my needs)
Also, read previous posts, and reviews on DVD burners, media, etc
The 2 major burners seems to be the Sony DRU and the Pioneer A05/A06
Media is an awkward question, as if you read previous posts you'll see by the constant discussion on what is better than what, and cost, purpose, speed, etc, etc. Basically, I think that is down to personal choice more than anything. If you find one that works for you, than stick to it, unless you intend to use the DVD's for 'lending' to friends, then you need something fairly compatable with other players, again, another ongoing discussion -
If you have at least a CD burner, I would suggest starting down this road with some attempts at making a few SVCD's. If you have a DVD player that's SVCD compliant, (check https://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers), you can play movies burned on a standard CD-R with most standard burners.
This guide is fairly complete:

Good luck! -
1. DvdDecrypter to decrypt
Dvd2One to fit onto dvd+r
Copytodvd to burn.
2. I have A HP 300i and have made over 120+ backups of dvds.
Not a single problem.
3. I use Verbatum dvd+r and rw. Never had a problem -
Hello there folks, I found the preceding answers very interesting as I too am a complete novice at this. I haven't burnt my first DVD yet!
I have TMPGEnc Plus, Nero and Nero Vision and altough I downloaded Ulead DVD Movie Factory I have got an encoded version of the film thanks to TMPGEnc but can't seem to get audio that is in an acceptable format to Movie Factory.
How do I get audio to match video? I'm bamboozled by VirtualDub!
I read the tutorial about DivX to DVD and tried to encode with TMPGEnc wasn't recognised by Nero. TMPGEnc seems to only support DVD-R and my drive is DVD+R.
Can anyone give me any pointers as I am out of my depth in some of the tutorials. For Idiots guide needed -
To get your audio from virtul dub;
1 open the avi
2 click video - direct stream copy
3 click audio - full processing mode
4 click audio - no compression pcm
5 click file - save avi
your audio should now match in the new file
