  1. This might be a little off topic but I'm trying to get VPC to run on my mac. I know people use this program for various VCD and DVD-R type projects. Anyway...

After I have Created my virtual PC I open it up to the quasi black DOS looking screen and I get a message that says "no OS found" or something close to that. Well Duh... I haven't installed it yet.

So I look in the help file to figure out how to install the OS. The help file says to open up the virtual PC (just like I have been doing) and the message should be some sort of thing like "boot failure" then I can put in the WinXP disc and boot from that supposedly, but I never get that screen.
I instead get the "no OS found" screen.

Please if someone knows what I am doing wrong please help, I AM PULLING MY HAIR OUT!!!

  2. First, make sure that booting is allowed for both CD's and Floppies. When you get to the "No OS Found" screen, click the floppy disk icon at the bottom of that window and select "Capture Floppy Image...". Next, select the DOS 2000 floppy image that came with your copy of VPC. Lastly, making sure that the OS install disk is in your Mac's disk drive, restart your VPC image and follow the DOS prompts on how to continue with the install.

  3. Well I hope you have some Windows install CD. Pop that in your CD drive and click the Capture CD/DVD cd icon at the lower left of the window. Once you do select the 3 finger salute from the Control menu (control-alt-del). VPC will then reboot from the CD and do its install thing. VPC seems to be pretty dang good and is quite useful for converting/burning windows media crap and running my old favorite CD buring program Nero.

One thing to note, make sure you have your Virtual Drive image to install to

just opening VPC and expecting it to have a C: is not always true. You can make a virtual pc hard drive (which will be an image file on your mac) using the VIRTUAL DISK ASSISTANT. once that is done, you can then coose it as your C: then quit VPC.

put in the Windows CD into your comptuer, let it mount.
now, open up VPC and click the button to start the VPC. It wil either read from the cd automatically, or the Contro-Alt-Delte method above will need to be done.

    then install away

  5. Can you eve burn DVD's or CD's with Virtual PC on the MAC?? I could've sworn I tried this and the superdrive didn't show up as a DVD burner - only as a DVD ROM drive (read only).

    Thanks for any clarification.

    Im inclined to say NO.
I always get error messages if ever opening apps like NERO, saying no hardware to be found.

its not so much of a problem, since you can just get the files on the MAC end and burn them like you would normally.

So, based on my experience, you cannot.

  7. I give up...nothing I have been told to do in this thread has worked, or I am not understanding what I'm being told to do.

"put in the Windows CD into your comptuer, let it mount.
now, open up VPC and click the button to start the VPC. It wil either read from the cd automatically, or the Contro-Alt-Delte method above will need to be done."

    Tried both I get nothing...nothing happens...absolutely nothing

If I remember correctly, I was getting the same thing. I solved it by creating a Windows hard disk image to install onto with the tool in the VPC prefs, inserted the WinXP CD, and then, at the prompt, I typed
    Code:
    cd E:
    setup.exe
or something to that extent, to navigate to the CD drive and then run the setup installer.
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."

Did you make the "C:" harddrive image with virtual desk assistant?? Then go into preferences and link your image as the C

I dont think it will do ANYTHING unless it thinks it has a HD to install to!

Ill see if i can get some screenshots up of how I did it, when i get some time!
