  1. I've got a video that has a lot of white noise in it and the actual audio is very quiet. Sounds like someone recorded the audio by putting a microphone next to a speaker. Does anyone know of a good tool to remove the white noise and possibly increase the volume. It is an .avi file but I can convert the audio to .wav or whatever format would work best. Thanks.

I am looking for something similar. Some of my audio files have a hiss that I'd love to remove.

  3. I've had some pretty good results using Cool Edit 2K and Goldwave for removing 'hiss' that I get when recording broadcast TV shows and burning to VCD.

Cool Edit you need to purchase to really use (it adds a 'gong' sound every 15 seconds or so to the processed audio track). Goldwave isn't as intuitive (for me) as Cool Edit is but it only took an hour of playing around to get the settings tuned. Trial version of both software should be readily available for download.

I tried these two programs after reading through these forums and finding quite a few people who also recommended them.
