You put this topic under video conversion:

    You realize that
    ram
is real audio only with no video.

    Maybe you mean rm?
EOVIDEO will convert those files to mpeg or avi. TINRA will also convert the files.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

Me thinks he means DVD-RAM to MPEG file.
    Simply rename it filename.mpg
    It's that simple.

Not entirely accurate. I've run across many misnamed REAL files, and even with wrong extensions, they can play as the proper filetype, given that you use RealOne to view it.

And Fulci, not sure what you mean by "simply rename" the DVD-RAM files. That may or may not be the correct method, based on what is on the disc. Normally, no. If it were a DVD-Video on DVD-RAM, you'd need to extract the VOBs MPEG/Audio with VOBedit or VOBrator.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

    Well ...

It depends on what you are going to do with the VRO file. If it does not need to be edited THEN you can import it directly from the DVD-RAM disc to either Ulead DVD WorkShop (expensive program) or Ulead Movie Factory 2 (much cheaper around $50 USD). It seems that MF2 is a favorite amoung those who deal with DVD-RAM VRO files alot.

However, if you simply copy the VRO to the HDD then rename it to an mpeg file then some authoring programs (not just Ulead) will be able to read that file and author it.

The best method is to use Womble Multimedia's MPEG2VCR but that program is around $125 USD or something like that. It will read the VRO file (without needing to change it to an mpeg file) and allow you to edit it and then spit out a PROPER mpeg2 file with the original AC-3 audio.

Toshiba makes a DVD-ROM drive that also reads DVD-RAM discs but you need a driver (from PANASONIC) to make it work correctly with DVD-RAM discs recorded on one of the PANASONIC stand alone DVD recorders.

What in the world is not accurate about giving the user proper file extension information.

Excluding the possibility that he wants to convert audio ram to audio mpeg (which would put it in the wrong forum) (that is why I mentionned it), then the files should really be named rm or rmvb. If they are mislabelled then he would have a heck of a time finding a video "ram" to mpeg conversion tool. That's also why I pointed to the 2 conversion tools. eovideo and tinra (They are video conversion tools) and of course they will accept the file even if it has a wrong "ram" extension if you adjust the file browser of the programs.

I think there is enough info to guide the user in the right direction if in fact it's even a realmedia file that manueln is trying to convert.

You may be entirely right. I based my answer on his use of the extension ".ram" and could have been totally off base.
