I am trying to convert an avi file captured from my sony dv camcorder and edited in Premiere. I created a .AVS file and ran it with Virtualdub.
I get an error message "Avi source: couldn't locate a decompressor for fourcc dsvd".

I thought Avisynth could open any avi file.

Any idea as to how to fix this sio that I may run my script through avisynth??

  2. Do you know what type of .AVI file it is? (i.e. DIVX, XVID)

If you don't have the right codec on your machine....no program can open it.

If you don't know what type of .AVI file,

Best bet is to get Gspot

    or AVIcodec

Find out what codec you need, install it......problem solved.

    Good luck!!

I am capture through premiere from my sony DV camcorder.
The File is avi Type 2.
I am using Premiere DV Microsoft settings.
When I check the codec with avicodec it says sddc or something similar. I need to check at home.
I tried to run the scipt in VirtualDub usind AviSource, OpenDMlSOurce and Avifilesource but non of them work.

The omly way I managed to run the script was by recompressing the file with HUFFYIU codec

you'll need to get a vfw dv codec. if you goto the tools section on the left-hand side of the page, you will see many different ones. the reason that you can view the dv file currently is because microsoft includes a directshow filter for dv playback in Windows Media Player. Unforunanltly, this filter will not work with vfw based applications (virtualdub, avisynth for example). My personal choise is the mainconcept dv codec

  8. BTW....this is the last time I try and answer a question at Midnight!

I totally missed things on two posts I had tried to answer....trying to be helpful when I should have been sleeping.

If I would have paid attention I would have seen that you're capturing DV.

    Sorry 'bout that!

BTW....the mainconcept is the one I've heard mentioned alot.....I hope it works well when I start my DV captures.
