Hello, I'm a newbie at AVI editing, I just started learning how to do these things a few days ago. Anyway, I am putting subtitles on a movie I have, it is an AVI XVID. I'm using sub station alpha to make the subs. I am making them all right, and they are perfectly synchronized, but when I put the subtitles into the avi using virtualdub's subtitler/TMPGEnc, the words appear on the actual picture in the video. It is a widescreen video, so there is some black space above and beneath the picture where the subtitles should go. If I use DirectVobSub, the subtitles appear in the right place (in the small black space below the picture), but those subtitled are not hardencoded and I need them to be so I can burn it onto SVCDs. I believe the reason they are being placed on the actual picture is because I'm using Virtualdub - it is a widescreen video but when played in virtualdub, it doesn't show the black parts above and below the picture. I assume since it does that then the very bottom of the video would be on the picture so thats where it places the subs. I tried looking up other methods to put the .ssa's into the avi, and I see a lot about SubMux. SubMux as I understand it is the same thing as DirectVobSub, and DVS worked before with the subs in the right place so I assume that will work, but SubMux isn't working for me. I drag the avi and ssa into the window, press mux, select where to save, press ok, then the new video appears. I open it and its about 1 second of blackness. That about sums up my problem. Sorry for the great detail. I just need to get the subtitles hardencoded BELOW the actual picture (which is widescreen), and I can't seem to do that. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
