  1. I have Sony's External DRX500ULX DVD burner and can't read the files in each directory on the Mac. I have the Sony on a Windows XP system and used a DVD-R. The Mac is a 17" Power Book with a Super Drive DVD burner running OS X. The file structure on the DVD shows up on the Mac, but each directory is empty. I can copy the same info to a Zip disk or CD ROM with no problem accessing the files. I can put the same DVD disk back in the Sony DRX5000ULX and access it on the Mac through the network and access each file on the Mac with no problem. Something about the DVD when it is in the Mac. Any ideas?
I use both Mac and PC. Mac: G4 Power Book 1GHz w/1GHz ram PC:1GHz w768 both have large SCSI/Fire Wire HD

What happens if you plug the Sony External DRX500ULX DVD drive to your PowerBook? Can the disk mount with that? If not, try burning in a different format on the XP box, like ISO9660 or something, maybe even UDF (DVD format). See if any of that helps.
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."

  4. I had the same problem .A friend passed me a dvd that i couldn't read. The disc said 4.2gb but it looked empty!
If you want to copy it use Toast .(even though you don't see anything)
    It will do the job
Somehow I think it has to do with the way it was burned - which program you used?.
P.S. Check your prefs in Toast and increase the cache and ram to the max(like empty HD space).
    Hope this hellps good luck
