I've a newly installed ADVC1394 A>D firewire card. So far, I'm unable to capture and DV from my JVC GR-DLSU1. I've tried the software that came with the card, Intervideo WinProducer3 first. It recognizes the cam corder as a JVC DV but won't capture (transfer) anything. I tried different settings for type 1 and type 2 and mpeg and no picture. There was some sort of file produced but when I tried to open it it said it couldn't recognize the file. I did capture with the analog out of the cam into the ADVC1394 but going analog sort of defeats the purpose of having the DV.
I've also tried ScenalyzerLive. When I hit "capture" the counter doesn't roll but the stop and pause buttons enable as if it thinks it's doing something. No capture though that I can tell.
I'm starting to think I'm either doing something wrong or??? I know this JVC is a very early DV. It only does DV out from the cam. Can't record to the tape via the firewire. Is the format proprietary some how?!?!
I could (and will) move on to try some other capture software (DVIO?, others??) but thought I through this out and see if anyone has any ideas.
Thanks for your help.
Zoot.

Grab the DVIO, my friend. I was a fan of Video Studio 6's DV software, until one day I experimented with DVIO. Two buttons? What could be easier?
Hello. -
Go to the Canopus website forum. There are issues (resolvable) in using this card (I have one) with Win XP, especially SP1. There is a very active forum there supporting your card and using it to capture.
You will probably get nowhere fast trying different capture software. The problem is in the communication between the OS and the card. Canopus has a work around that seems to work for most of us, and there are a number of other things you can try. -
My brother has a JVC. For some reasons, many programs have problems recognizing his camcorder. But DVIO and Ulead Video Studio 7 recognized it (however, Ulead Video Studio version 4 did not recognize it). There is a trial version for Ulead VideoStudio 7.0.

Thanks for the replies thus far...
I tried DVIO and it's pretty much the same thing, no counter rolling, no file captured.
I also checked out the forum on canopus.com and read through the three pages on the XP SP1 thread (which is what I'm on btw) and I didn't really see a solution. Months ago it sounded like there was a fix being tested but not being given out freely by support. I kept waiting to get to the post that said it was available but...
Is it downloadable somewhere?
Thanks.

I wanted to buy the ADVC 1394 untill i read some compabillity issues on the canopus website.
It has problems with some chipsets on different motherboards.
I did not want to buy a new computer since i already have a new 1
Also some problems with windows xp SP1, but it was the hardware problems that bothered me the most.
Change it for a ADVC 50 or 100.
They work like a dream!
Good Luck! -

where to I come by the chipset/motherboard info...? I've searched all through XP and I'm thinking it either doesn't know/care or isn't going to tell me. I've a 5 month old Gatway 500. I know it's Intel but that's about it...
Thanks. -

The SP1 fix IS on the Canopus website. Again, without the Canopus fix, you probably will not get the card to capture on a regular basis.
Here is the link to the Canopus application launcher, which seems to work in 95% of the cases tried (follow the instructions). You may not be able to get to this until you sign in on the Support page.

Hmm, I must be jinxed... I've downloaded and installed the Application Launcher from Canopus and that didn't change anything.
I've actually traded email with someone from support at Canopus so I'm hoping they can shed some light on the situation. -
