I copied a dvd using my camcorder as a passthrough to my computer. The resulting avi file was about 30gb. I believe this is a type 1 avi file and I need to convert it using the canopus dv codec converter. Then I can use this file in CCE. When I try to convert the file gets to be about 5.5gb and the converter stops. I tried using all the canopus output options and nothing works. Has anyone encountered a problem like this. Also is there any better way to use an avi file in CCE other than having to go through this converting process.

I have had same problem. I have a home movie that is about 8 GB in avi format and I can not convert it so CCE will recognize. I was only able to use TMGEnc. Why are you playing DVD through camcorder to record on Computer?? The only thing I can think of is you do not have a DVD Rom or writer but then why even do what you have done so far since you can't do anything with the file?? Or just playing around.

I was reading around and I think that this canopus software has some issues with windows xp. Is there any other converters around or some way to use this avi file in CCE. I heard somewhere where there is a free type1 to type2 avi converter from ulead. Does anyone know where I can find this on their website.

Don't know about the ulead one but there is one you can try in tools section of this web site. Just look to your left.

I see this converter in the tools. It seems like it is from ulead. I will try it tonight. Does anyone know how i can make a type 1 avi file work in CCE.

You could always frame serve it using avisynth, but that's going to slow things down - unless you're planning on filtering the video and thus the loss of speed is worth the effort.
I thought CCE took type 1 directly with no need to convert (never done type 1 myself)? I assume you've already tried that.
The other option I know of off hand requires recapturing- use DVIO (freeware- http://www.carr-engineering.com/dvio.htm) which can capture as either type 1 or 2. It's what I've always used with my canopus advc, as I use avisynth/vdub and thus need to capture as type 2. For future reference, it's the option I'd go with if you need type 2 avi capture from a firewire. Free, easy on the system resources, and idiot proof.
