I usually have no problems with ritek's dvd-r's, like most of the people here with g03 and g04. I have a couple of home movies that I authored with dvd Maestro and played fine on apex, ps2, and power dvd. A friend of mine tried playing these on his old set-top pioneer (dvl-v888, karaoke that plays laser disc, dvd, vcd, cd, etc), and the dvd just locks-up at the beginning of the movie and refuses to play. Weird, since this same player plays g03 and g04 discs fine of backed-up dvd movies.
Could it be just a media problem, or there's something with my authoring technique??

movie back-up's created by dvd2one or dvdshrink on ritek's plays just fine. Which is supposed to be more compatible with dvd-r's, NEWER or OLDER set-top dvd players?

Most should work fine, but the highest compatibility would be on newer ones. My friends first gen plays my DVD-R backups, strangely he cannot even play a burned audio cd on it.
