Need a little help from a confused newbie :)

OK so I downloaded this so called XVCD and I would like to burn it. The tutorial here says to use Nero and burn it as a VideoCD. The thing is I'm not sure if it's Mpeg1 or 2 for certain. The name states XVCD but I have no idea how to make sure for certain. Media player doesn't tell me that and so doesn't the file properties. The file is 40min long, 720x526, 25fps PAL and 750mb. Nero loaded it fine meaning that it could be mpeg1 but it didn't play in any player until I tried powerdvd which has a mpeg2 decoder, see my confusion? So how do you tell if it's Mpeg1 or 2?

since you already havve powerdvd, when the file is playing, right click and go to configuration. under the VIDEO tab (or something like that, i don't have the program open right now), it'll show you all the properties of the video (including mpg1 or mpg2).
