Hi All,
I just wonder if I am missing a button or something simple. I do not see a option for remove/delete post completely, [by author]. To me this would be a nice function, after a few too many Rum and cokes, or your chosen poison, this could come in extremely handy. I know it is always better to THINK before you post but as we can all see sometimes we do not always follow this great plan.
We have all seen flames that perhaps could have just been removed by original poster before they got out of hand. Or simply to remove some incorrect advise or ill thought out question or answer. I just posted twice on the same thread by some mistakeand it just made me wonder????? No Big.

Agreed.
Sometimes you start a post... then, it takes on a life of it's own. People start talking about anything and the tread ends up being 30 pages of junk that has nothing to do with the original question.Don't give in to DVD2ONE, that leads to the dark side. -
I think in those situations (too many rum & cokes or double posting), you just have to edit the post and delete your message.

Editting and moederator closing are the only ways to accomplish this now. People were abusing the deleting function and it got switched off a few months back.

Without trying to sound elitist, that is not my intention, having made over 1000 posts I would like to be trusted to delete any posts I've made in error (although I can only remember a handful to be honest).
Willtgpo, my real dad, told me to make a maximum of 5,806 posts on vcdhelp.com in one lifetime. So I have. -
I think some of this gets into "mission creep" territory...
what's easier for Baldrick - setting a bunch of custom permissions on the forum software, so someone with 1000+ posts can delete one or two of them, or just going in and editing the post and leaving a [deleted by author] in the thread?- housepig

sorry, "mission creep" is a military term, it's when other tertiary concerns start to interfere with the prime objective.
in straight terms - you are going to the hardware store to buy nails. So your wife asks you to run by the grocery store for 5 or 6 things, and your daughter needs you to drop her off at the library, and your son reminds you to gas up the car 'cause he needs it later... everything above and beyond the hardware store is mission creep.- housepig

As above. Unfortunately, deleting of posts (and even now editing) has been abused in the past.
If you feel that you posted in haste, then you can always edit your post. If you are being flamed (and you deserved it), then a simple apology on the record is much better than deleting your post.
