I understand that most made in Japan Memorexes are made by Taiyo Yuden (unless they are mislabeled as in the case of my Memorex purchased in Bangor, Maine's Wal-Mart)....
Are there other brands made by Taiyo Yuden ? If so could someone please list them ?
Thanks

Not sure, most retail discs out there are Maxell made. Newer Memorex are CMC or some other crappy company. If you want to get Taiyo Yuden discs, buy it in bulk from online stores. Its about $2.30 a disc though.

This is the case for AUDIO TY's....but don't know if it's the same for DVD-R's
TDK can be made in Japan.....but are HARD to find. Typically it's the Taiwanese TY's that are out there. All the Fuji's I have ever found are TY's. Just WATCH THE LABEL. You can always tell from the outside label. Most of the crap out there seems to be Taiwanese in my experience.
I have heard of unbranded TY DVD-R, for relatively cheap...about 2-4 bucks per disc, but I don't know of any sites right now.
Good Luck. -
Just a historical NOTE:
Engineers at TAIYO YUDEN (a privately held company)
along with SONY & PHILLIPS
INVENTED THE CD
no wonder they make good blanks!
And think about it..
SONY and PHILLIPS are the only companies that win big whether you buy a SONY PICTURES title or a BLANK DISC! -
the people here know so much !
here is the releated patent page and further info on patents on dvd-r and dvd+r

Here is another site that sells Taiyo Yudens.
Japan made TDKs are hard to find now? I went to JandR about a month ago and got a 10 pack. They were Maxell made dvdrs and manufactured in Japan. -
In Australia, you can get TDK DVD-R's that are manufactured in Japan and they have the TDK manufacturer code. They're original TDK's.
Also, Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation don't manufacture in Japan anymore, well at least not for export. All discs in Australia made by MCC are manufactured in Taiwan, Singapore, ore Ireland/EU. There are also MCC discs made in Mexico and India, but I have never personally seen those. Just remember, to find MCC, look for "Azo dye layer" and "DatalifePlus" on the packaging.
