My DRU500A has been running like a champ in an XP Pro system. I recently built an A/V workstation and have 2000 Pro SP3 installed. My problem is that none of the softwares will see the drive as a DVD burner. MyDVD, Ulead VideoStudio6 nor Vegas4 will use the drive to burn DVD. Under device manager, the same driver is applied as is the DVD ROM and is listed as a CD ROM and updating drivers has not helped. To rule out drive failure, I re-installed it into the XP system and all works well. I've searched the forum and have not found a report like this. Any clues?

I've just installed ASPI 4.6 and nothing has changed. I also tried swapping IDE channels without success. I had not installed any of the supplied Sony software except MyDVD. I gotta tell ya', I've been building computer systems since 1993 and this is one issue that has really got me. Unless I can figure this out, XP Pro is going to be installed. Not that I mind but I really want to figure out this problem with 2000 Pro.

One more thing, I ruled out the motherboard as I installed the Sony into another system with 2000 Pro, same results.

I have 2.0f firmware in the unit. I did a complete re-install of 2KPro including a full HDD format and still had the same problem. After that frustrating ordeal, I broke down and put in an XP Pro upgrade. It now works fine and all of the programs respond like they should. I've been up all night trying to make up for lost time, but this whole issue does not make sense to me. Knowing that the hardware did not change, there must be something between the OS and hardware that does not marry well. At least on this system.
