  1. Hi, I have a .AVI file, and I want to decompress the .WAV from it. I open it up in VirtualDub, and then I click Audio -> Full Processing Mode. I made sure that the video is on "Direct Stream Copy". So then I click File -> Save WAV. The error I keep on getting is:

"No audio decompressor could be found to decompress the source audio format."

So, I found out that I needed an AC3 codec. I already have it... the .AVI plays fine on my PC, except I keep on getting that error of trying to decompress the whole audio. If someone could help, that would be great.

    Thanks.

direct stream copy the audio save as .wav. change the extension .wav to .ac3. open new ac3 file in headache. convert ac3 to wav. or even easier is to open the video file in goldwave and the save as wav.

I'm having this problem now. I have always been able to do this in Vdub until today, I know I have the audio codecs installed, I reinstalled them. I even tried to decompress audio files from movies I've done before, and it won't even work with those. I've never had to do anything with ac-3 before, so what is going on?
