I want to do dv-dvd. Here's the steps I will do for 2 hour video:
1, Use ScenalyzerLIVE to get .avi video from dv. <-2 hours
2, Use Tmpgenc plus to convert video to mpeg2. <-long time?
3, Use Tmpgenc dvd author/ to finish dvd home video.<- ?
4, Burn it by using recordnow max. <-15 mins
I want the speed. And I have amd2.2G(11*200)/1G pc3200/160G maxtor/ati 8500dv/pioneer105 dvdrw. Is there anything I can do to make it faster?
I tried pinnacle 8 before, it's just too slow if I want to do some editing. I wish above steps can make it better.
Thanks for the inputs.

Hi,
Would it help if I get out and push
Seriously though you will probably have to grin a bear it unless you want to sacrifice some quality by reducing settings in TMPEnc.
It took me 9 hrs on my very under powered 1Ghz system to compress 2hrs of video sacrificing some quality by using default settings and CBR.
Steps 1 and 4 you can't alter the time for.
Steps 2 and 3
2 Authoring will depend on your program, size of file, how much rendering it has to do etc
3 Unless you want to sacrifice quality there's nothing you can do. You could increase processor speed or get some form of dual processor or even wait a few years until say 6Ghz processors are out.
Hardware mpeg encoding might be an answer but the quality is not as good as software and it costs a lot more. -
Not really -- you can *vastly* speed up your encoding speed by using any of the better encoders: MainConcept and/or CCE are the two that immediately come to mind.
There's nothing wrong with TMPGEnc's quality, but the author himself is the first to admit it was not written for (nor has ever been optimized for) speed. You can get equally good (some people think better) quality using another software encoder (although you'll pay more -- MainConcept goes for $150, but I do think you can get a stripped down version of CCE for less).
Using MainConcept I encode in the highest quality in near real time -- that's a big improvement over TMPGEnc. Unless you capture in MPEG or buy a dedicated hardware encoder you can't do much better than that."Like a knife, he cuts through life, like every day's his last" -- Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang -
Yes, maybe I can capture in MPEG2 directly. Which software is best one to do that? I don't care too much about quality, and plan to put 2 hours video on one dvdr - just the movie quality.
I used dvd2one before, I think that's very impressive: just 10 mins go from 7G to 4G. MainConcept can do in the real time? Seems not bad. There's nothing faster than it?
Do you think another 1G memory can help? -
If you have at least 512mb I wouldn't worry about getting more memory -- and that's really just for the capturing process.
Shrink programs like DVD2One aren't reencoding -- they are using an entirely different process, which is why they can operate at such fast speeds. Apples to oranges, I'm afraid, so you can't compare there.
You can capture in MPEG but I wouldn't do so unless I wasn't planning on editing afterwards (while there *are* MPEG editing programs they don't offer the ease and power of editing in DV-AVI). There are lots of MPEG capture cards -- just check on the left and get reviews and recommendations."Like a knife, he cuts through life, like every day's his last" -- Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang -
Yes, I know dvd2one is different. But before it, there's no good way to do that. Maybe, one day we can get something similar for avi~mpeg2.
So, I have to use a capture card for dv~mpeg2. AIW won't do it? There's no software that can let me do it through 1394? -
Mainconcept is probably the quickest software encoder there is unless you are willing to use an mpeg-2 capture card such as the Happauge PVR-250 or 350. But that creates other complications (for example, editing mpeg-2 is harder).
P.S. Ulead VideoStudio 7.0 is a good software that does everything (editing, authoring, encoding, burning). They have a trial version. -

I would just like to clarify M2-EDIT Pro is VERY powerful and can work with any MPEG streams. After 15 min of playing around, it is easy to use too.
just my 2cents -
Really? So it allows for transitions, keying, titling, multiple audio streams and other such effects?
I'm not talking about simple cut and paste editing -- but if there are MPEG editors out there that ARE that powerful I stand (well, sit) corrected."Like a knife, he cuts through life, like every day's his last" -- Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
