  2. No clue whats wrong hopefully someone else can help. But I can tell you want you need to do after you get everything working again.

This is how I can FIX ANY SOFTWARE PROBLEM IN LESS THAN 8 MINUTES.

    1) When everything on your system is runing at 100% backup your system partion with Norton Ghost 2003. You can store the image on another partion (such as D or burn it to CD/DVD RW.

You can use other programs, but they have to be able to do a complete image of your partion from outside of windows (ie DOS). System Restore cannot backup system files that are in use and neither can any program that runs within Windows.

    2) Keep as many of your personaly files and folders on a partion different from where windows and all your other programs are installed.

I keep "my documents", desktop and email store folder on my D: drive

    3) When you have a software problem you quickly move any important files to your D: drive.

I have to manually move my address book, favorites folder and any saved games.

    4) Restart your computer with a ghost floopy and restore your os partion from the backup image.

I have a pretty fast machine, so I can be in a irc channel talking to a friend, leave the channel, completely restore my pc and be back talking within 8 min.

    5) Sometimes the problem persists. Since the backup has restored you software to exactly the way it was when everything was working fine then you know that the problem is due to hardware and not software.
