The only codec required for svcd is mpeg2 which would be in any software dvd player like powerdvd or the like.

  5. Yeah, for your conversion to work properly, you need to have an mpeg2 decoder, meaning you should be able to play your svcd straight from the dowload. Mpeg2 is proprietary technology, thus you will probably have to buy an mpeg2 player or if you're lucky, powerdvd came bundled with your dvd rom (assuming you have one). Either way I would recommend powerdvd for mpeg2. The so called "free mpeg2" players, from what i hear, aren't worth the hassle.

does windows media player also have problems?

just to be thorough though, you do have powerdvd xp right? Not just regular power dvd pre-xp?

  8. yea its powerDVDxp

and the only problem with media player is that it can only play sound so it treats it like an mp3 file in that respect bringing up sound bars instead of the video.
