  1. I have recently aquired a Mitsui DW-7801TE drive. I have to date been unable to burn a DVD that would be readable either on my computer or on my DVD player (Sony DVP715).

I have read many of the tutorials on this and other web sites and I have tried to author the DVD using Ulead Movie Factory 2 and/ DVDMaestro. I tried to burn with both Nero 5.x and RecordNow Max (Stomp) v. 4.50 as well as using the direct to disk feature in Movie Factory 2 and DVDMaestro.

I have tried to burn dvd's with or without sound, and used the "reformat" option in Movie Factory 2 to ensure that the output is DVD compliant (just in case my mpeg2 authoring is faulty).

As a last act of desperation i tried to burn the samples at www.svcd2dvdmpg.com but they don't work either.

I am suspecting there is something in the burn process that goes wrong because I can play the dvd off the hard disk directory (VIDEO_TS) using WinDVD but as soon as I burn the files to a DVD-R(W) neither WinDVD or my Sony DVD player will recognize the disk as a DVD disk.

The disk seems ok otherwise and I can navigate it using Windows Explorer.

I am really stuck with this one, and I would appreciate any help you can give me.

    Thank you,
    Michael

    Hi phoenix2212
Do you add a empty AUDIO_TS folder to the project? Some standalone are picky about this and does your player play RW's at all?
If yes to both above you could try to convert your VIDEO_TS and empty AUDIO_TS folder to an .img file [free tool] then test with DVD software of your choice if ok then burn it with RNM as a IMAGE/img file.

    Also
In VIDEO_TS do you have ALL these files + film VOB's
    VIDEO_TS.BUP
    VIDEO_TS.IFO
    VTS_01_0.BUP
    VTS_01_0.VOB

I know this first one can be frustrating hang in there.

  3. You burned the files or you put all the files into a VIDEO_TS folder and burned that folder? The correct answer should be the files are in a VIDEO_TS folder and then you burn that folder otherwise your player will not playback the disc. BTW I have the same Sony player and love it.

  4. If I'm not mistaken your DVD burner supports DVD+R not DVD-R. Check out the literature that came with the drive.

His player will play both formats. I have the same player and use both formats all the time (whatever is cheapest or on sale).

  7. So many helpful people... thank you all for your replies...

The location of the files are all in the VIDEO_TS folder. The authoring software creates the files and places them there automatically.

There is also an empty AUDIO_TS as well...

I just want to stress the point that the DVDs that I burn cannot be recognized by the computer either (using WinDVD)! This leads me to believe that the problem is not with the Sony DVD player...

    The Mitsumi DW-7801TE will handle DVD+R, DVD+RW, CD-R, and CD-RW media.

The docs say that the following DVD Writable formats are supported:
    DVD-Video. DVD-ROM, Multisession.

Based on these specs, is it possible I can't use this drive for burning compliant DVDs?

    Thanks

  8. Of course you can burn compliant DVDs. But you must use DVD+R(RW) media. You said you tried to burn a DVD-R disc. You cannot burn to a -R disc with your burner. You must use a +R(RW) disc.

  9. I was using DVD+RW, DVD+R the problem is the same regardless of the type of disk used.

I am using Memorex products so the quality should be OK too.

The content of the disk is accessible using Windows explorer. I can see the files, even play the VOB itself. But the disk somehow is not burnt properly.

I have seen some posts about explicitly making an ISO/UDF 1.05 format data disk. Some people had their problems solved that way. I can't try this since none of the recorders allow me to specify the ISO/UDF format for the recording...

Don't be too sure. Quite a bit of people are having trouble with Memorex DVDs. Try another brand of media.

  11. Thanks to all those who replied... I have solved the problem by using DVD Workshop for authoring and PowerDVD for viewing on the computer.

WinDVD 4.5 just won't run the DVD authored.

Also a side note, the Memorex DVD+R(W) media is OK and plays in my standalone DVD as well.

    Thanks again...
