Hello
I've created a video file in Ulead VS7 and output it to an MPEG2 file. However, the file is 813Mb and I'd like to fit this onto a CD. There is an option in VS7 to output to MPEG1 instead but the resolution is halved.
Can I resample the MPEG2 to a specific size?
Thanks,
Steve![]()

yes, use the demo version of TMPGenc or CCE to create the MPEG2 file, or use one of the many video tools designed for compressing DVD9's to DVD5's, as you can set the output file size.

Thank you for your reply, but I'm still having trouble.
I can't get TMPGenc to convert the MPEG file to 'CD Size', it only give convert to MPEG-1. In any case when I tried it I got lots of buffer underun errors and the file wouldn't play.
MPEG-1/VCD is too low quailty for this project
MPEG-2/SVCD is too large for 1 80min CD (unless there are tricks involved)
I couldn't finf in TMPGenc to specify a target file size for MPEG-2. That would solve it
Many thanks,

read the guides on making XVCD's.
the final size of the encode is the kilobits per second you set multiplies by the number of seconds. so if your source is 35mins, that's 2100 seconds. so a 700mb cd is 5734400 kilobits. simply divide that by 2100 seconds and you get 2730kbps. take away the 192kbps you will need for audio and your video bitrate is 2538kbps. simply enter that number in the video bitrate box in TMPGenc. obviously if your source is a different length you need to redo the maths. if you can;t be bothered to, use the bitrate calculator over in the tools section.
oh, and read some guides. -
What system are you using? pal os ntsc?????
If pal then the answer is obvious.
If ntsc than.....Anyone tired of his old DVD burner? Why put it into the trash? Contact me! :)))) -
Ok, this is a newbie forum and if the answers were obvious I wouldn't be asking *wink*.
I've tried TMPGenc, VCDEasy, DVD2SCVD, FitToCD & Media Wizard.
None of these I can get to convert an MPEG2 file created by Video Studio into something small enough for a CD.
I get VS to create an MPEG2 file period - 1.1 Gb. I get VS to create an SVCD/MPEG" file - 813Mb (SVCD size?) so maybe VS knows this and performs the bitrate stuff automatically?
However, (originally posted in a seperate thread), I'd like for the SVCD to be readable in a DVD player *and* and have it autoplay with Windows Media Player (or other file player) when inserted into a computer.
Do I simply need to put an AUTORUN.INF file on the root of the SVCD?
Thanks,

There is a Video Server plug in that allows you to frameserve from Video Studio to TMPGEnc.

Oops wrong link. Strange site, with secret pages. Click here.
Hello. -
use a bitrate calc
then in tmpgenc , load the unlock template and then type in the bitrate value, then encode -
thats ok, but i never oveburn, there is a risk to cd drive and or cd
just a little lowering of the bitrate should not notice much difference -
Yeah, but you have to re-encode.
You could probably fit it on there without even overburning. -
possibly, but why think about wondering if you need to overburn if you can work out correct file size with a bitrate calc, no rencoding done, just encoding 1st with it all worked out
i dont think the original poster is talking about a divx, but an mpg done in tmpgenc -
oops got that bit wrong, not done in tmpgenc soz
but tmpgenc is the best, ive used ive tried others, the results i get are superb -
VCD and SVCDs are supposed to be about 800mb. Because they are burned Mode 2. No overburning needed. Error correction is build into the stream so none is needed on the CD, creating 100mb extra space.
