  1. I plan to purchase a Digital Video Converter so that I can convert my Analog video to DV and then encode to VCD by using tmpgenc.
I cannot make up my mind which is a better buy: Hollywood DV Bridge or Canopus ADVC 100 ? Kindly give me advice. In want to know which product will make better quality VCDs.

Buy the DataVideo DAC 100.The HDB has a lot of issues (connection losses durring capture, bad frames, dropped frames at 1%, bad Audio after bad frames ...).I recently switched to DAC 100 (after 2 years trouble with the HDB).

  4. Thanks Pals, I have made up my mind not to go for Hollywood DV Bridge. I have to settle for either Canopus ADVC 100 or Datavideo DAC 100. I have found out the price of Canopus ADVC100 in India which is Rs.18700(US 4 381) and I feel it is rather high. I have to find out the price of Datavideo DAC 100 in India.

The Data Video could be twice as expensive as the CANOPUS box out where you're at..That's because it also has COMPONENT Inputs/Outputs to feed directly from a BETACAM SP component out (P-Y or some component like that not the RGB you might know)

I own the Hollywood Bridge..never had loss of frames or audio sync problems..

There is one major problem tho'
IF YOU HAVE an OLD VIDEOTAPE with dropouts
it may (and will) trigger a BAD AUDIO sound ...starting with the BAD SPOT in the tape..an sometimes continuing till you start capturing again.!!!!!!
That is, IF YOU HAVE OLD OR BAD TAPES in SPOTS, you'll need to pay attention as you transfer, and BACK UP AND DO IT AGAIN FROM THE BAD SPOT in over 70% of the "triggered audio spot" problems

THIS seem to be the only problem with the device I can report as The MACROVISION hasn't been a problem here vcause I don't copy anything like that theru the BRIDGE....
Haven't seen a "bad FRAME" Problem

That is on the DAC-2 not the DAC-100.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

Thanks for fixing my MIS INFORMATION
It'll be a little more expensive anyway as its better device and metal boxed If I remember it right...

The Dazzle is the only product I will ever consider from the EVIL RAZZLE EMPIRE because it doesn't go into you computer!
    and thus you stay FRESH!:-)
and un encumbered with DAZZLE drivers (you use a MICROSOFT written driver to captutre thru this box...)

  8. In India the prices of DAC100 and ADVC100 are to high ie nearly double at what they sell in USA. I have decided to get ADVC100 from USA through a friend who is visiting India in Sept.

  9. After lot of deliberations, I decided to get Canopus ADVC 50 which is a lower priced card without the DV to Analog output(I don't require this for my use). The card will cost me IN Rs.12740 (US $260) whereas they sell for US$ 180-190 in US. Anyhow, I have already placed order and waiting to receive it adv try it out.

    Vikram,
I would suggest an MSI TV@nywhere card, as it will capture in about 8 preset formats, + any variation you set it to. It is 50 USD, I do not know how much in India, what, 30 rupee to the dollar? Still, it has remote, time shifting, instant replay, commercial skip, scheduled record. MPEG 1, 2, 4. Worth a look.I have had good results with it.

  11. I will try to trace the card MSI here in India. The exchange rate of Indian rupees is Rs.49= USD $1.
I let you know how much they sell MSI in India.

I don't think the MSI card fits the POSTER's requirements

but If you're willing to capture to a DIFFERENT form of AVI (Mjeg) or MPEG directly
THE MSI may be for you

  13. I am interested to capture from analogue camcorder to DV format only. This means the MSI card is not the card for me.

Isn't, by definition, anything you cap to your HDDrive Digital Video? What difference if you cap, or write to, the hard drive at 8000kbps, as an MPEG, or 13.6 gig per hour as a DV "feed", not a capture? Both have to be rendered to be of use. Is a DV input easier to convert to a useful product than an MPEG capture?
I have to admit, I have tried some caps with my own MSI card, and, at least played back on my comp monitor, they are not as good as I expected them to be. I will have to send to TV to see if they are adequate or not. As of now, not.
