  2. How did you obtain your source MPEG file?

I converted it from .avi to a DVD compliant Mpeg file with TMPG.

  4. What I meant to ask was 'what was the source of the original .avi?'

In other words, was this .avi file captured from a DV camcorder?

Or did it come from some other source?

    Oops, sorry.
The source is a compressed film,

  6. So when you explain the .avi source was a 'compressed film,' you mean it did not come from a DV camcorder, right?

So the next question would be:

Do you know what the attributes of the original .avi file were?

Were they standard in any way?

    In other words...

    720 x 480?

    24-Bits?

    48khz, 16-bit audio?

    etc.

What I'm suggesting is that the source file attributes are significant.

I've noticed that about 99% of the problems posted to this forum seem to be related to...

    a. files 'ripped' from commercial DVDs using free ripping software;

    b. files captured from proprietary hardware MPEG boards.

When I get some time, I'm going to do some analysis of these types of files to determine precisely what makes them different.

In the meantime, I used standard DV .avis just this morning to author four one-hour DVDs using DVD MovieFactory 2 - and it worked without a problem.

Hi there, this is where I'm upto.....
    1. Convert the .avi with TMPG into a DVD compliant Mpeg2
    2. Demux and re-name Mp2 to Mpa
    3. Import these and create VOBs' in IFOedit
    4. Create my DVD using Nero wizard instead of setting up manually, this seems to make a difference cos' after this my DVD seemed to play as I expected in my standalone.
I'm going to play around with the chapter creation now in IFOedit
    Any tips would be appreciated..

    Thx all
