    i know they make those round labels that are made to go straight on a disk (how cool is that)

    but for the cases, do you just use regular white paper and cut it, or glossy photo paper and cut it, or do they make paper specially for this that is already the right size???

  2. I'm sure if you shop around you can find someplace that sells dvd case inserts or covers like you can for cd cases.

    Personnaly though I don't bother with that stuff and consider it over priced in the case of jewel case labels/inserts for cds.

    Instead I just use a template or ready made design and print onto card stock for any inserts I want. $5 for a ton of card stock and a good pair of sizzors, or $12 for a few inserts?

    If I am doing something real fancy like burning 100 disks for a local band I try various things like coated paper or gloss till I get the look I want. Use a paper slicer to get good even crisp clean cuts. But that's for sale stuff.

    For myself and the kid we go cardstock and sizzors. It looks good and is cheap.

    Try SURETHING.COM or their sister site, LABELGEAR.COM I've used their DVD case inserts and their software along with them. No complaints here.

  4. Many choices.
    Avery
    Stomp
    Memorex
    Borderbund
    ...and others.

    All make kits for making both lables and jewel case inserts.

    I have an overprinting printer (a Canon inkjet), so I can use regular typing paper (actually, I use a high resolution inkjet paper). The liners are 10.7 inches high, so the overprinting works like a charm.

    You can also buy a special insert stock, but expect to pay more than an half a buck apiece. Look around at www.neato.com for info.

  6. Is anyone having any trouble with cd labels on DVD disks? I read something about they can cause disk failure. I use them on cds with no problems so far, will they cause disk failures on DVD-r or damge DVD drives?

    As for DVD case labels, what are most of you using for cases?
    I am using CD cases, 100 colored slim cases for about $20. I like them, they are smaller and cheaper than DVD cases, and if you don't want to mess with inserts you can just let the disk labels show through. Also nice when you have alot of disks laying out, no need to look for the correct case, just grab an empty.

    As for the inserts, like I first posted, I use cardstock when I make em and cut to size. Works nice for me.

    I'm still a newbie and just really getting started burning DVD's ( 10-12 good ones so far). I have burned tons of cd's though, and the above works well for me so I plan to do the same with DVD disks.

    I buy cheap cds (free after rebate) and up to .30 each. DVD -r I bought disks for about .75 or .90 each in 2 25 pack spindles. I really find it hard to pay .20 for a disk label, .30 -.40 for case inserts, and more than .15-.20 for a case. The disk does all the work, so I label that for looks and protection and put it in a safe cheap case.

    Now if I am selling disks, like those I make for a local band, that is a different story and I will pop the bucks for looks and glory, they are paying for it. I just don't do it for myself.

  7. Photoshop with layered template from their spects for ThinPack DVD case. Works like a charm.

    I guess Corell Draw would work and MS Publisher would also work out well. Basically anything with layer management would do.

    I use the proper amaray DVD cases for DVD, and jewel cases for VCD, easy way to tell them apart.

    I use CoverXP, it works great. If I'm making one from scratch I have a templet I can use in Paintshop Pro.

    Also for DVDs I've started using some A4 sized paper that pre peforated for DVD Cases, works pretty decently.

  10. Sounds like a decent way to tell disks,
    I'll probably just use color cd cases though.
    Red= DVD
    blue=audio cd
    green= mp3 cd
    yellow=vcd
    anything else= data disks.

    I kinda like the cases all the same size, fit neatly on a shelf, lots of cd case holders on the market to stack em.

    I've only been getting dvd's since dec. but already have like 3 sizes in comercail dvd cases!

  11. I am using and like the Afterburner system(an Avery product). Quick and easy, can use regular paper or any number of pre-done templates and special paper.

    The paper is micro perfed, matte and when you bend it back and forth it "snaps off" and is ready to go into the jewel case.
