im burning a dvd, my source is PAL (25fps) and i dont think its necessary to change it to NTSC since most player will play both anyways, right?
well my real question is should i have the resolution be PAL standard if the framerate is, or does this not matter either? what do you reccommend i do? thanks.

  2. Hey.. I'm a pc guy so i don't know if this will apply to you, but i just converted my first PAL dvd to NTSC dvd and on a pc, let me tell you, it is a pain in the arse.

Looks like you're in the U.S.--so am i.. Finding a dvd player to play PAL is not the problem i don''t think--it's finding a TV in the U.S. that can play PAL (25fps).

I had to demux original PAL movie into audio/video, convert fps from 25 to 23.97, re-encode the video, run 3:2 pulldown to convert to 29.97fps and finally remux/reauthor and burn.. whew.. Again, i'm not familiar at all with mac, but i would think it'd be the same process.. Oh, and then i had to stretch' the audio from 25fps to 29.97fps, using BeSweet

Here's a recent thread that is very in depth:

Hope i didn't provide any misinformation---i'm relatively new to this

  3. I'm actually in need of some help. I am trying to convert a PAL DVD to NTSC DVD.

Right now I have all the files on my harddrive under the "VIDEO_TS" folder. Is there a program for the mac (not pc) that will help me convert the movie to NTSC without having to drop it down to avi or mpeg first?

Here's my solution... I found a cheap chinese dvd player (Sampo) that does the pal to ntsc conversion on the fly. I was going to make a ntsc dvd by hooking it up to my standalone dvd recorder, but since I already had the disc and a player that would play it I decided to just use the pal disc.

The next time any of my friends gets one though, I'm ready!
