Did it ever read the +RW disks? Have you changed the firmware to a non-authorized release? If so, did you then try to erase the disk with the bogus release?

  3. Hi,
Yes it it read the +RW discs. I've been transferring them over to -R for months. I upgrade the firmware to 1.41 (authorized) only after the problem started last week.

  4. maybe the disc is not finalised? problem with +RW's is that i hear only finalised discs can be read with other drives (could be packetwriting or something)

  5. I've never finalised them before and had no problems. I did have had a look at my Phillips 800 and it appears that I cannot finalise +RW discs (it doesn't appear in the menu when an RW disc is in the machine).

  6. im pretty sure only the burner that created the disc can read the +RW disc, and if it is the + format, then the A04 would only be treating it as any other dvd. Perhaps the disc is going bad, have you tried any other +RW media?

  7. The discs I normally use are VERBATIM, of which I have a few. I've never had a problem with the A04 reading them before. Since the problem started I've tried TDK & ZERO DEFEX (cheap discs but uses the Ritek dye)

  8. DVD+RW discs don't need finalization (or as PhilipL states the DVD+RW standalone recorder finalizes the disc automatically).

I'll go with what w00tski said: use another DVD+RW disc and see it your burner can read that. who knows, maybe it's just the disc that's going bad.

  9. FW Verion 1.41 will read only General Version 2.0 media. If you are using older Version 1.1 media this mdeia may no longer be recognised by the writer or writing software being used.

  10. Hi,
I was using FW version 1.31 which was when the problem occured and subsiquently upgraded to 1.41.
I have been checking round the forums as I started to suspect my Phillips 880 recorder was at fault. I have been having a few problems with it but I thought it was the media. I read that one of the problem is that they will not play original DVDs with the "no disc" error. The thing is I never used it as a player. I tried a couple and was soon to discover that my 880 had developed the fault like so many others. It's now in for repair.
I've posted a couple of my +RW discs to a friend to be recorded on, which he'll return for me to try. I actually now believe the fault was with the writing of the 880. I'll get back to you early next week, when I recieve the discs back, to let you know.
    Thanks for your help.
