  1. Hi all

As the subject of this post says, I'd like to extract an AC3 5.1 from a VOB files. Edit it (create a fade-out at the end). Then "Re-create" (remux?) the VOB file with the edited AC3 track.

If this is possible, what softwares (preferably cheap or freeware ) would I need to achieve this?
Could an expert guide me through the process?

    Thanks in advance,
    ddlooping

    BeSweet
    Your favourite wav-editor

Just split it into 6 mono wavs (if source is 5.1), edit, and use BeSweet again to create the AC3 file and use a DVD authoring program to re-create the DVD.

One note tho, this procedure (regardless of what tools you use) will compromize the quality considerably. You might not notice the quality drop, or, you might notice it. Just try.

you will have to re-encode it to do that ..

you can either convert into wav files w/ besweet and edit it with a audio editor - then re-encode it

    or

install the ac3 codec in tools and open it in goldwave and edit and save it out as wav files and re-encode it

either way you will have a lot of quality loss

better if you used the source files ..

  4. Thank you both for your replies.

"either way you will have a lot of quality loss."
    "...will compromize the quality considerably."

    I'd rather not do that.

"better if you used the source files .."

    Would you mind clarifying, BJ_M?

if you had made the dvd -- you would have the source files (ussually) ..

i guess you didnt make the dvd

why go through all this effort to just add a fade?

  6. Well, I use DVD Shrink fairly regularly, especially when cropping the end-credits of a movie-only backup enables me to use little or no compression.
(by the way, have you checked DVD Shrink v2.2? It's well worth a try )
The only problem with cropping the credits is that the music tends to finish fairly abruptly , to say the least.
So I thought it might be worth investigating into the possibility to fade it out.
I also thought I would surely learn something useful in the process.

  7. Sorry, it looks like I started this thread in the wrong forum.

Could a moderator move it to the proper one and remove this post?

    Thanks in advance.
