The device is a DAZZLE HOLLYWOOD BRIDGE..
Its putting out FIREWIRE as the GREEN LIGHT #3 indicates
It works fine under WIN 98 SE

when I reboot into WIN2k(sp3) same machine, same hardware..all happy
    in the DEVICE MANAGER together
My DEVICE MANAGER shows the adaptec 4300 FIREWIRE CARD is happy
(I have 2 hard drive connected to it successfully)
    Now I go to capture...
IT CAN'T CONNECT TO IEEE1394 Capture Hardware!
What GIVES is there a patch?

    I've tried installing the following:
    Ulead Capture 6.0
    Adobe Premiere 6.0
AVID Dv 2.0 was already installed and "NO VIDEO INPUT PRESENT"
    also tried
    ARC SOFT SHOW BIZ
Video Wave (came with Adaptec Card)

I GET THIS: Unable to CONNECT to Capture Driver (which once again is properly installed but not working!)

I even took the firewire card out, replaced it with an SIIG FIREWIRE CARD
same exact results..AFTER INSTALLING THE CARD, ree-boot and
VIOLA..happin the device manager.. HArd Drives connected and working but no capTURE..
now I put Adaptec back , but now alongside the SIIG in the next slot

NOW I HAVE 2 DFIREWIRE CARDS tHAT WILL WORK with HARD DRIVE but neither will CAPTURE VIDE what happening?

RE bOOTING on the same macjhine in 98SE, I install the 2nd card (done) and still capture easily in any of 4 applications (SAME DAMN COMPUTER NOW WITH 2 fireire cards in one tower-neither of which works in WIN2k)

All this so I can capture to NTFS by the way!
    HELP PLS!

Well took 6 or 8 hrs but solved it!
Somehow windows took a NON-DIRECT SHOW capture driver and installed it for my FIREWIRE IN!!!
    Switching the driver to
    DIRECT SHOW MICROSOFT DV
was extremely difficult as it reinstalled the NON-DIRCT sshow driver without telling me everytime i reebooted..
And when I finally figured out how to stimulate the installation
of the other driver (GO FIGGURE WHY A MICROSOFT DIRECT SHOW CAPTURE DRIVER is considred a UNSIGNED DRIVER!!!!)All the pieces of the driver didn't seem to be in the oS and required the download of a DLL..
    Ridiculous..
Now it works but I still can't monitor aUDIO as i capture
in any of 5 DV capture apps that now work fine to capture unlimited length VIDEO & AUDIOunder NTFS.... just won't pass thru the audio while capturing damnnit...

I wish I could solve my problem. I am trying to get an Asus V8420D to be recognized by the WDM Capture Driver. So much of my problem sounds parrallel to your situation. After ininstalling the nVidia or Asus display drivers, windows reinstalls the drivers after rebooting.

Any tip for getting the WDM Capture Driver to recognize the V8420?

The error message from the Event Viewer:
"The nVidia WDM Video Capture (universal) service failed to start due to the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. "

I hadda remove the DEVICE in the dvice mnager
where its listed strangely enough under IMAGING DEVICES
then, hoping it doesn't re-install by itself next time..maybe you can stimulate this by not having it connected next boot

THEN when upon HOT-PLUG it shows up,
choose the other CHOICE..not look for the best driver,
but you might have force another driver.not one windows says is any good (you can almost always remove a bad driver)
    and
If you're on Win98se or Millenuim
find a file called DV250.exe (put in google) and this'll help but not for 2000 or XP

You gotta have the CAMCORDER present (and removeable) to make this work cause removing 1394 stuff does nothing

    Thanks for the advise.

I have tried the methods of forcing "Other Driver" and using every WDM capture driver I could find. No luck. . .

I recently did a clean install with the same result. Downloaded sp4 for W2K but that didnt change a thing.

I also signed up with Asus Help Desk but not a response from them in 2 and a half weeks.

Came back here and started looking for a dedicated capture card.

    Update

After posting this problem with Asus Help Desk and no response for over 3 weeks, I decided to RMA the card. I put an old Asus V6800 in till the card gets back. I was unable to get any WMD drivers installed on this card either. A few days later, Asus Help Desk offered some trouble shooting tips. Most of which I had already done. The three major hardware suspects would be the Ram(Tested OK), CPU (working fine), and Power supply.I was using an Antec Tru Power 430 watt PS. I even purchased a tester which hooks up to the main connector and led's indicated any problems. This checked out OK also.

Suspecting the Mobo, I started doing research on a new nforce 2 board to replace this Soyo KT333. Searching the Abit forum for WMD Capture problems and I found several threads that indicated that the Asus V8420D was having problems with a low +5V rail. The Antec +5v rail was at 4.94 in the Bios. THey also pointed to PS mods to boost the +5v rail. I took the Antec appart and could not find a pot to adjust or the resistor to replace to get the adjustment.

I picked up a Vantec Stealth 470 watt PS at a local Computer show.Swap ot the power supplys and boot to the Bios only to find the Vantec +5v rail @ 4.84v . I was a little dissapointed but decided to leave it in and see what happens. I ininstalled the WDM drivers and tried some old 1.08 WDM's and poof!, they worked on the V6800. I feel sure I tried the 1.08's on this card as well as the V8420 before switching the Power supply.

I am waiting for the V8420 to return.
