  1. I have followed one of the guides from this site to make the ifo and bup files using ifoedit. I now have a Video_ts folder with four vobs and the relevant ifos and bups. I now go to burn this folder to disk using RecordNow DX. I do this by selecting the folder and adding it also I have created a Audio_ts folder which is empty and then added that. I then go to burn these to folders to a DVD-R using my Sony 510 and then RecordNow DX ejects the disk saying i need to put a blank disk in. I do this and the same thing happens again. I insert a blank DVD+RW and the it is ejected.
I am now thinking there is something wrong with my drive so I have now burnt as follows :-
2.5 Mb BMP to a CDR
    2.5 Mb BMP to a DVD-R
4.4 Gb Folder with Vobs inside to a DVD-R
    75Mb Vob to a DVD-R
I am now thinking there is nothing wrong with my drive and that it writes perfectly.
I have now read the relevant part of the guide How to copy a DVD9 to DVD5 with menu & extras using DVD2ONE. https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/146795.php
At the end of this guide it says about :-
(I know this guide is for RecordNow Max and i have DX but the same options should apply)
    Startup RecordNow Max.

    1) Select [Data].
    2) Change [Volume Name].
    3) Select [Add Files and Folders] and add ""VIDEO_TS" folder.
    4) Select New Volume Under [Multisession].
    5) Click the red circle.

Could part 4 (Select New Volume Under [Multisession].) be a problem when creating the disk I want. I have always left it on the next option down.
I know this is a very long winded but I am sure there is someone out there that can help me with this problem.
Thank you very much for your time and I look forward to your replies.

  2. You for sure don't want to burn a Multi-session DVD-R as this will not play in 99% of the DVD players however it will on your computer DVD drive. You want to finalize or close the DVDR

For RecordNow I use the Wizard and simply select "make a data disc" then insert a blank DVD-R close the drive wait about 30 seconds then select next and add my VIDEO_TS folder then next to start the burn. I use a Sony DRU500ax burner.

  3. I have tried the wizard way a million times but it keeps ejecting my media. I spent like 7 hours non stop trying to get this thing to work. Does the Video_ts folder need to be at the root of my hard disk or can I add it from say c:\films\not\Video_ts
How do you set RecordNow to do a non multisession disk cos I don;t want that anyway. Does the wizard write a non multisession disk without you have to tell it too?

Yes you can add the VIDEO_TS folder as a sub folder. I usually create a folder like c:\Signs_DVD2one and inside that folder I have the VIDEO_TS folder with all my DVD files and an empty AUDIO_TS folder.

I believe you can tell RecordNow in "options" to finalize the recording and I don't know what the default is.

I don't know why the discs are being rejected. Perhaps it's an ASPI problem so it wouldn't hurt your system to download and run (one time) "ForceASPI". You can get that from the tools section. Usually if there is an ASPI problem it will show up with whatever ripper you use but to be sure I always run ForceASPI on a new installed system that way I know that is not going to be a problem.

  5. If there was aspi problem would it only come into effect when I wanted to add a Video_ts folder because I have written three dvd-r without problems include a 4.4Gb folder. I am sorry to be a pain but this is very frustrating. Thanks for your help.

  6. I don't think so unless RecordNow somehow is detecting something wrong with the files in the folder (I believe Nero recording software does that). What do you use to create the files?

  7. I used DVD Decrypter or Smart Ripper to take the VOBs off the DVD and store them on my hard disk. Then I used ifoedit to create ifo and bup files based on the four VOBS.

Hmm I think you should also have IFOEdit "get VTS sectors" after it creates the IFO's. That will fix any errors and also create BUP files. There is a button at the bottom of the IFOEdit screen marked "Gets VTS sectors" for doing that.

  9. Yeah I have done that sorry I didn't mention it. Going back to this multisession business I think I have been writing the dvd-r as multisession disks but would RecordNow figure out that I wanted to create a non multisession disk and then stop me from writing the disk? Does it know that I am writing a Video_ts folder to it and therefore it requires special settings? I am probably plucking at straws here.

I had the same problem with my Sony. Try to make an image of it and burn with DVDdecryter. I'm doing it all the time and have no problems with it now.

    Good luck

  12. In the guide I linked to it says you have to rename the vobs to VTS_01_001.vob etc. mine are currently VTS_06_001.vob I think. I know there is a 06 instead of 01. Could that be a problem???

A user has documented a BUG in the WIZARD'S IMPLEMENTATION of
    multisession here on VCD HELP

I couldn't find his post with a search..but suffice to say all your problems should immediately disappear if you just CHUCK the wizard...

and if you question your renaming of the VOB's to 6 not 1

CHOOSE another project to burn to test the burner first
It will work if you just DUMP that WIZARD

IN RNM, the recording options has 2 things you must check

    1) there is an option for it to recognize both video and audio ts folders as DVD file structure

    2) In a data layout RNM, defaults to an open multi-session, make sure this is changed to TAO closed session (however if you're set to recognize vid & aud_ts dir's it may change automatically.

    That really should be it.

After burning MANY coasters with nero, I switched to record now.
I have burnt in excess of 500 disks with this software and it is a gem.
Unfortunately - the error reporting mechanism in it SUCKS royally.
However, if it wont burn a dvdr for you if something is WRONG.
It scans your video_ts folder and analyses the dvd structure looking for errors.
I found it very frustrating at first. But every time it refused a burn, I DID find errors.
Rename your vobs -01, -02, etc. Let ifo edit recreate the ifo's and bup's.
Get vts sectors from all Ifo's.
Look at the positive side. Record now will not let you burn coasters.
Unfortunately, it won't tell you what is wrong.
I have come to trust this software completely.
I use the wizard and have had no problems with it.

  17. Here's how I make a backup of a DVD-5:
1.DVDDecrypter to rip, using Stream Processing(English audio and no subtitles) and saving file in a folder named VIDEO_TS.
2.I delete all .IFO files in VIDEO_TS folder and run Ifoedit then "Create IFO's" selecting VTS_01_1.VOB.Then "Get VTS sectors" selecting VTS_01_1.IFO and answering Yes to all questions.
    3.Import AUDIO_TS(empty)and VIDEO_TS folder to RecordNow DX,selecting Data,TAO closed,UDF+Joliet.
    4.Pop some corn and enjoy.

If the disk is a DVD-9 or 10 I use DVDx to compress and Ulead Videostudio to render and burn to one disk.

Does this Keep Chapter Structure, Subtitles and DolbyDigital characteristics?

Otherwise since this is about RECORD NOW:
I want to add, thanks KIKI for the details on how it scans the structure for errors..

  20. PaulDiston,

During the IFOEdit process are you splitting the the disc at any time ? ie...is the original DVD over 4.3GB and you put it onto 2 discs ?

Used it to make an EXCELLENT VCD of Clockwork Orange (DVDx)
It rocks true!....Can you make chapters in it at all?..Or does it just group chapter to make the VCD size?

  22. I managed to get it working. The errors thing that RecordNow has must have kicked in cos I did find that I had the VOB numbered incorrectly. Re-did the ifos and bups and burnt it without the wizard. No problem sorted. Thanks for all the info guys I look forward to buring alot more disks in the future.
