Hey. I have a video file (.avi) with a fair amount of noise, and I'd like to remove it. I've tried VirDub with several smoother filters, and they really don't do the job. I've tried AVISynth, and I get really confused. Can anyone recommend an easy to use program with a really good noise reduction filter?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks![]()

Tmpgenc has a very nice and easy to use NR filter. It does take time, however.

Yeah go with that and hit high quality mode, it takes about an hour and a half for 22mins on my system.

I've used the one in TMPGEnc, and it's pretty good, but it still leaves some noise, and the image gets really blurry, because I have to set it so high. I know that noise removal will blur an image to remove the noise, but the noise removal in TMPGEnc will almost make the video unwatchable it's so blurry. And it takes TMPGEnc about 22 hours to do a 45 minutes video that I have. Do you even know of a really good VirDub filter? I've tried several of the spatial soften, the temporal softer, and some of the denoise filters. The best results I can get are from a filter (plug-in) called Alparysoft denoise, and then it leaves these little patches in the frames (when there is a scene change) that are discolored, like in bright pink, or green. Any other ideas?

TMPGEnc's internal filters are probably the most unflexible and slowest of all!
Use AviSynth filters, where you have a whole range of noise, temporal, spatial, median, etc. filters that are optimized specifically for each task.

I've tried AviSynth, and I get really confused. I'd like to think I'm pretty bright, but that makes me think that the doorknob is smarter than I am
And I've tried reading the "learn to script" section - that didn't clear much up...
I can resize using AviSynth, but when you get in to the other filters is where I get confused."Don't try to be a great man. Just be a man, and let history make its own judgment."

The mix of 2D Cleaner and SmartSmootherHiQ (both for virtualdub), is one of the best noise reduction methods ever. Very good, and easy to use.
If your doing cartoons, add warpsharp for virtualdub as well.
But you really should learn AVISynth. It really does pay off. -
Everyone says AviSynth can do great things, and I probably should learn it. For some reason it just confuses the $h** out of me...

DivXExpert; that 2D cleaner is the best! Thanks for letting me know about it. I can set that up (with a light setting) then use the sharpen filter to restore some of the sharpness that is lost, and it looks great!
